It’s new years eve and you get invited to a party. What do you bring? Probably alcohol? Maybe chips?
Well, we decided to bring homemade Monte Cristo sandwiches.
This delicious sandwich dates itself back to 1910 in Paris, France. It is two slices of white bread containing ham, turkey, or chicken, and a slice of cheese are dipped in beaten egg and fried in butter. A classic Monte Cristo sandwich should come with a side of jelly to dip it in.
We decided to make them out of King’s Hawaiian rolls, turkey, ham and Swiss cheese! Now those ingredients together already make a great sandwich, but let me tell you. The key to a great Monte Cristo is the batter it’s fried in. Here’s my recipe:
